The exceptional qualities of borage oil (borago officinalis) lie mainly in its richness in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA: 20 to 24%), an essential fatty acid which is a precursor of the prostaglandins.

Melvita borage oil is extracted by cold pressing of selected seeds. It is filtered and then purified over fuller’s earth and activated carbon in order to remove any mucilaginous substances, any alkaloids and any traces of pesticides. All of these operations are carried out at low temperature in order to preserve the fatty acids and vitamins which give the oil all its qualities.
